How to Choose the Right Size Caravan Tarp
Choosing the correct caravan cover tarp size starts with accurate measurements. Our covers are flat tarps, not fitted or elasticated caravan covers, so sizing depends on the level of coverage you prefer.
Step 1: How to Measure Your Caravan for a Cover
Measure:
Step 2: Select Your Coverage Type
Full Ground-to-Ground Coverage (Maximum Protection)
Caravan Tarp Size Formula:
Tarp Length = Height + Length + Height
Tarp Width = Height + Width + Height
This allows the waterproof caravan tarp to drop near ground level on both sides. Depending on your measurements, there may also be additional material available to tuck underneath the caravan for extra protection if desired.
Roof & Partial Side Coverage
Caravan Tarp Size Formula:
Tarp Length = Length + Height
Tarp Width = Width + Height
This covers the roof and sides but does not extend fully to the ground.
Important Installation Tips
When it comes to protecting your caravan, not all tarps covers are created equal. That’s why we use our premium XF Film. Unlike standard fabrics that can fray, tear, or degrade over time, XF Film is engineered to be waterproof, UV-resistant and highly resistant to wear.
Beyond its strength, XF Film is designed for practicality. It’s lightweight yet tough, making it easy to handle while providing heavy-duty protection. The tarp has a smooth finish that won’t scratch or damage your caravan’s exterior.
Our eyelets are also ultrasonically welded into the tarp material itself. This creates a strong attachment point that distributes tension evenly, reducing stress and preventing tears to ultimately make securing your tarp easier and more effective. And if an eyelet ever comes loose, the XF Film ensures that the material won’t fray, allowing you to easily replace it with a tarp clip and keep your cover in top condition.
The result? A tarp that’s built to last, with reinforced stress points, superior load distribution and long-term reliability.

Where is ARK Tarps from?
Your caravan is more than just a vehicle – it’s your home away from home and it needs protection! Our caravan covers are made from premium materials designed to withstand the harshest weather conditions. Whether it’s intense sun, heavy rain or strong winds, they offer reliable waterproof protection and UV and tear resistance, giving your caravan the defence it deserves.
Our tarps are the perfect solution for protecting your caravan. Designed to wrap securely around your caravan, they offer optimal protection against the elements. With a wide range of sizes available, we have a tarp to suit every type of caravan, ensuring you can travel with peace of mind, knowing your investment is well protected. At ARK Tarps, we understand how important it is to safeguard your caravan. Let us help you keep your home on wheels in pristine condition – no matter where the journey takes you!
Our Caravan Covers are born waterproof. The raw materials used in their production are waterproof, ensuring that each layer of our tarps provides complete waterproof protection. Unlike other tarps, which often have only a thin, water-resistant coating applied after manufacturing, our tarps offer full waterproofing throughout.
Our Caravan Covers are made from XF Film. This specialized Swiss-patented film ensures exceptional strength, durability, and reliability. Our unique manufacturing process sets our tarps apart from anything else in the industry. You can learn more about the XF Film and our production process here.
ARK Caravan Covers offer excellent UV resistance and come with a 3-year UV guarantee. Designed for extended outdoor use, they will not peel, crack, or disintegrate under harsh sunlight, making them ideal for Australia's extreme weather conditions.
The eyelets on the Caravan Covers are ultrasonically welded onto a sleeve of thick plastic, integrating them into the tarp material for added strength.
During our manufacturing process, the layers of raw material are laminated in opposing directions, creating greater cross-directional strength. Unlike normal poly tarps that are typically woven in a single direction, ARK Caravan Covers offer superior strength and better field performance.
All our tarps have been tested to meet various Australian standards. When we say our covers are tried and tested, we mean it. We control the entire production process from start to finish, ensuring all quality and compliance checks are met before the product reaches your hands.
| # | UV RESISTANCE |
|---|---|
| ARK Tarps XF Film | UV inhibitors are incorporated in the raw material blend – 3 Year UV Guarantee |
| Other woven tarps | UV inhibitors are usually applied as a thin surface coating, which wears off faster, reducing long-term sun protection |
| Canvas | Limited UV resistance: typically untreated, which leads to faster degradation in prolonged sun exposure |
| PVC | UV resistant but may degrade over time depending on the thickness and treatment of the PVC coating |
| # | WATERPROOFNESS |
| ARK Tarps XF Film | Raw material is inherently waterproof throughout |
| Other woven tarps | Waterproof coating is applied on the surface, but this thin layer can degrade, leading to reduced water resistance over time |
| Canvas | Water-resistant but not fully waterproof; canvas can absorb water and may require additional treatments to stay water-resistant |
| PVC | Fully waterproof with a thick PVC coating, ideal for heavy-duty outdoor use but prone to cracking in high temperatures |
| # | LONGEVITY |
| ARK Tarps XF Film | Long life as tarp is 100% waterproof and UV resistant through the entire thickness of the product |
| Other woven tarps | Coating wears off, causing cracking and peeling, which leads to shorter lifespan and vulnerability to elements |
| Canvas | Durable but susceptible to mildew, mould, and rot if frequently exposed to moisture, leading to a shorter lifespan |
| PVC | Long-lasting in stable conditions, but coating can crack or peel over time with high exposure to sun and cold |
| # | STRENGTH |
| ARK Tarps XF Film | Layers are laminated in opposing directions creating greater cross directional strength |
| Other woven tarps | Woven in a single-direction weave, which can be inherently weaker and more prone to tearing under stress |
| Canvas | Strong and tear-resistant but less flexible; canvas can rip if punctured or cut, especially after wear |
| PVC | High tensile strength; resistant to tearing but less flexible than XF Film, making it more likely to rip under heavy stress |
| # | EYELETS |
| ARK Tarps XF Film | Ultrasonically welded on a sleeve of thick plastic, making them part of the tarp material |
| Other woven tarps | Rivetted on the tarp making them more vulnerable as they punch through the tarp material causing potential tear points. |
| Canvas | Typically riveted or grommeted; canvas can weaken around eyelets due to fabric tension and moisture absorption |
| PVC | Metal or plastic grommets; more durable than canvas or woven tarps but still prone to pulling out under heavy strain |
| # | MATERIAL & MANUFACTURING PROCESS |
| ARK Tarps XF Film | Constructed from multiple cross-laminated layers with UV inhibitors and waterproofing embedded in the raw material. Layers are laminated in opposing directions, enhancing cross-directional strength and resistance to tearing. |
| Other woven tarps | Made by weaving polyethylene or polypropylene threads in a pattern, then coated with a thin layer of poly material for added strength. Coatings are often thin and may wear off over time. |
| Canvas | Woven from thick natural cotton or synthetic polyester fibers in a tight weave; often treated with wax or waterproofing agents to resist water and UV exposure. |
| PVC | Produced from synthetic PVC (polyvinyl chloride) layers laminated over a woven polyester scrim. The PVC is coated and heat-sealed or welded for waterproofing, though high temperatures can affect flexibility and longevity. |
| # | ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS |
| ARK Tarps XF Film | Fully recyclable as made from virgin plastic material, with a focus on UV resistance to prolong lifespan and reduce frequency of replacement. |
| Other woven tarps | Typically, non-recyclable; coatings may degrade faster, requiring more frequent replacement. |
| Canvas | Biodegradable if untreated, but typically treated canvas is less eco-friendly due to waterproofing chemicals. |
| PVC | High environmental impact from PVC production; often non-recyclable and may release chemicals upon disposal. |
